The key performance indicators you choose to track should correlate directly with goals established at various levels. They may be goals for individual employees, for a team, for different departments, and for the whole organization.
- Performance measurement has to be treated as a deliberate process.
- Performance measurement is about focus, feedback and a fulcrum.
- The words used to write goals must be clear, specific and observable to be measurable.
- Design measures that quantify the ‘evidence’ that would convince you the goal is happening.
- Engage and involve people in the measurement process, don’t just consult them.

For Trainers...
Stakeholders hold the ultimate seal of approval on the effectiveness of training. They observe whether employees are able to transfer the knowledge/skills to their jobs. They are also responsible for the performance metrics of employees as well as the team as a whole. Knowing all this, it is safe to assume that stakeholder satisfaction is a crucial indicator of effective training programs.
Establish clear strategy to let your partners know, What you need from them, Why is important, and present them through always a dialogue, How you will achieve that.
When you’ve chosen KPIs that are aligned with the goals of individuals, teams, and the organization, keeping track of those KPIs on a consistent basis will show you where your training is influencing results and helping to meet goals.
For balance and greater success in training and measurement, must use both hard and soft metrics and types of KPIs, rather than one approach cause it will give you a fuller picture of the effects of your training program.
A good KPI should act as a compass, helping you and your team understand whether you’re taking the right path toward your strategic goals.
